Several months ago, I was browsing through the skin care section of a major department store when I came across the Clinique stand and was intrigued to see their latest product, a spot fader known as the Clinique Even Better Clinical Dark Spot Corrector.
To be quite frank, I have had my experiences with Clinique color cosmetics in the past and was anything but impressed. For some reason their colors have been pitched to work well on darker skin tones but frankly I didn’t care for the colors choices. Now, I was intrigued with the new product and given that Clinique positions itself allergen tested and free, I was curious to see what major skin lightening ingredient dark spot fader would utilize especially since I’ve been searching for a hydroquinone free formulation.
The Clinique Even Better Dark Spot Corrector uses Ascorbyl Glucoside as a major skin lightening agent, which is supposed to be a more stable form of Vitamin C, shown to last on the skin a lot longer and offer skin brightening effects.
It also contains Mulberry extract, a natural skin lightener and exfoliating agents like grape peel fruit extract and salicylic acid which will help to remove dead skin cells and offer better product penetration. I decided to be open minded and give the product try, perhaps the combination of ingredients might have somehow created the Ah-ha combo needed to lighten the spots on my face plus I was on a desperate hunt for any product that would give me some level of improvement.
Well, after several weeks, I ended up back at the store waiting to get my refund. Not only did I not see any improvements on my dark spots, but beware the product does contain silicones which I believe is the culprit behind the tiny bumps that started forming on my skin after use.
At about $40-$70 online at major department shops, the cost to me does not justify the results you get from the product, it is basically an exfoliating moisturizer. And so the quest to find an effective, hydroquinone-free dark spot fading treatment continues.

As a woman with TONS of freckles I couldn’t wait to try the dark spot corrector!! Unfortunately after 8 weeks I am not seeing much results 🙁 I will say that I do LOVE how it makes me skin feel. I’m thinking it better for other types of skin discolorations.
Hi Loni, thanks for sharing. I too did not see results from the dark spot corrector, so don’t feel bad. I am currently testing out some other lighteners for dark spots so stay tuned for the report : )
Hi, I have tried a product by AVON called clearskin Blemish clearing, it’s a three step set, the dark spot corrector is very effective for lighten dark spots on dark skin. AVON’ ANEW cleanser makes my face feels really clean, it improves the overall look and feel of my skin. I looking into trying other products aligned with this cleanser.
I have used all the Q10 products from Garnier, Roc, and Clinique. I can’t say for certain it has helped reduce any fine lines on my face, I have very few at age 34.
I have however been using the Somaluxe Firming Lotion (for my face) and I have very few wrinkles and the skin around my eyes is quite supple and taut (although this could just be good genes and nothing to do with the product). The Somaluxe Firming Lotion is not like Roc or Clinque where you have to act like the product is gold dust and use sparingly. . .its a large bottle which I like. It lasts a long time.
