I came across an interesting concept in skin care several months ago called the derma roller that completely blew my mind and I have decided to do continuos derma roller reviews on this blog to help anyone contemplating using the device. On first sight, the derma roller looks nothing short of a torture device and another skin care fad to gull us once again. The derma roller has been touted to help with mild to severe skin issues like acne, acne scars, hyper-pigmentation, stretch marks, wrinkles and overall texture irregularities.

After years after trying products or treatments that is always pitched as the next best thing in skin resurfacing, I was extremely skeptical about the product, nevertheless I decided to do my research. As you can see in the image, it is a handheld roller with 100’s of needles on the roller ball. The needles come in a variety of sizes from 0.2mm up to 4mm and  the longer the needles, the more intense the treatment (the deeper the penetration).

The more I researched, the more I became intrigued and found myself open to actually trying it out. To use the derma roller, you gently  glide the roller ball on the skin in a vertical and horizontal movement putting slight pressure on the handle (Note keywords Gently and Slight). With each roll on the skin surface, the derma roller creates punctures into dermis stimulating collagen growth which plumps the skin in areas where there are any indentation or irregularities making it appear smoother. The derma roller also allows for deeper product absorption so any treatment product you are using on your face will work much faster. One thing the product is not, is a quick fix and after each treatment, it does take some days for results to show and a number of treatments for noticeable improvements.

I am interested in hearing from those who have done a derma roller treatment. What has been your experience and has it worked?

I tried the Derma roller a long time ago but it didn’t really do much for me. It seemed to help a little bit which is better than nothing but it wasn’t a “miracle cure” or anything like that.
