Stress relief, difficulties with sleep and herbs to calm the mind and body are some of the more common concerns our customers come to us for. So how do we deal with the effects of too much stress? Fortunately there are lifestyle tips, herbal remedies, supplements and food that can help your body fight the harmful effects of stress, ease the mind and relax the body.

Natural Remedies To Reduce Stress

When it comes to helping the body deal with stress in the world of herbalism, we turn to adaptogens, nervine tonics and nervine relaxants. Adaptogens are nutrients that help reduce the negative effects of stress on the body. Nervine tonics are herbs that help to improve and enhance the nervous system and nervine relaxants help to relax and calm the body. As a seasoned herbalist, I like to blend all three for the best effects.

Adaptogens as mentioned are some of the best natural remedies to reduce stress as they are substances that help the body counter the negative effects. Some of my favorite adaptogens include Ashwagandha, Shatavari, Eleuthero Root, Tulsi Holy Basil and Mushrooms. Ashwagandha and Shatavari are actually yin and yang herbs, with Ashwagandha being the masculine and Shatavari the feminine. I like to blend the two but using a higher percentage of Ashwagandha for men and a higher percentage fo Shatavari for women. These herbs can be brewed as a tea or the powder form can be added to hot beverages and smoothies. I like to start with 1-2 teaspoons per 8oz of water 1x a week or more frequently during periods of high stress.

Nervine Tonics

Nervine tonics are also great natural remedies to reduce stress. They are essential herbs that help to strengthen, enhance or improve the nervous system. Nervine tonics are beneficial because they can help to improve your overall state of mind and reduce your predisposition to stress. I like to incorporate nervine tonics weekly, sometimes biweekly or at least monthly to keep the body balanced, improve mood and general wellbeing. Some of my favorite nervine tonics include: Chamomile, St. John’s Wort and Mushrooms like Lion’s Mane.

Nervine Relaxants

Nervine relaxants are closely related to nervine tonics are they both affect the nervous system however the key difference is how. Nervine relaxants soothe, calm and relax the body. These are great during times of stress to reduce the length or period of time we are stressed and ultimately reducing the harmful effects of stress. Nervine relaxants are also great as bedtime teas to help you fall asleep fast and stay asleep. My favorite nervine relaxants include: Valerian Root, Skullcap and Passion Flower.

By combining these three different classifications of natural remedies to reduce stress we are able to achieve powerful results. As a seasoned herbalist this is usually my go to for addressing these very common concerns. At CHIOMA, we have put together some ready to go natural remedies to reduce stress. Our UDO Relaxation Tea blends adaptogenic herbs, nervine tonics and nervine relaxants and is a great solution for anyone looking to relax and combat harmful effects of stress naturally.  Discover how our products can help you achieve your goal.
